I'd talk about my business trip to Indiana but most of the interesting/funny stuff that happened to me would make roofers grin and the lay person scowl. You see, most construction folk are crude and disgusting but funny as hell in a small classroom far away from anything that resembles the general public.

Weekend was good. Went downtown on Saturday night which was cool. Yesterday, we had Easter over at the in-laws which was nice. Didn't get to work on the basement but we didn't have any plans to anyway. This weekend was kinda supposed to be relaxing and we tried to take full advantage.

I really need to start working out again. Lindsay and Karin are saying they're going to make me attend a six mile run thing in June. I know that it would be good for my health and for the cause but seriously, back in high school, even when I COULD run 6 miles, I still wouldn't have done it. I warn you girls, I don't like running long distances - never have and probably never will - but I'll start building the 'ole endurance. If it goes well....well I'm not making any promises.

I hate running long distances. I hate it. Let me put it this way, if I had to run 10 miles or dye my hair white blond, ...... oh I can't even say it.......my hair would be white blond......oh that would suck!

Yes. Indiana. Yes. Lame.

Monday, March 21, 2005

It's 4:36am and I am up typing a blog. No, I am not kidding you, I'm really up at 4:36am. I have to go to Indiana for four days for training and I am up at f-ing 4:36am ready to drive five hours for four days worth of training. Does this suck? Royally. Plus, I got tar on a pair of decent khaki's and now I'm forced to wear a pair of pants I bought about 3-4 years ago - and I've totally gained weight since then. I feel like I have a huge gynormus beer gut and my shirt is starting to feel smaller. Oh good, that's really good, I'm hugely fat and going to Indiana. I have half a mind to live in Gary and be fat, happy, and newly retarded. Ugh, I'm disgusting......flashback to the movie SPUN....I'm the mother of Frisbee....a cheeto falls on my stomach and I neither see it nor feel it sit there.....EWE. hey hey hey it's faaatttt jackie!!!

Disclaimer: I'm really only half serious. I'm not depressed.

I'm going to Indianapolis next week on business. Four days of training. I'm only excited about it because I get to go with my brother instead of going alone. I have to leave at 5am monday morning. Lame.

wake up. drive to jobsite. talk to foreman. return to car with list of materials guys will need for tomorrow. drive to jobsite #2. ask guys if they have any questions. answer questions. call boss. leave site having knowledgeable and cool headed roofers working in peace. drive to office. sit down at desk. realize something. remember what it felt like to take a test without contributing any extra effort beyond what you normally put into just class? enter feelings of incomplete knowledge of roofing accompanied by feelings of guilt associated with lack of self-discipline, motivation, and determination.

get over apprehension. be bold and not care. study. keep busy and learn. more importantly, don't give up because of any mistake. dont stop caring.

Paul and I were reallllly bummed that we couldn't go visit Scott and Lindsay in Chicago..but honestly, we couldn't go on vacation knowing that we could potentially have this huge ass bill waiting in the mailbox when we got home. What bill would that be you ask? The balance of Paul's car loan. Paul got into an accident that rendered his car unsafe (to say the least) about two weeks ago and we've been struggling with the insurance company ever since. If it doesn't work out, we're stuck with a very large bill for a worthless piece of metal. So knowing that, we would've felt like complete jackasses if we were all happy and spending $$$ when we could have such a huge bill sitting at home. It was a choice we really hated to make but had to for our own sanity and financial stability.

So we thought that since we were home and pissed about not being able to go, we'd do our best to keep busy and think about what we could do instead of what we couldn't do. On Friday, Paul started replacing some more galvanized pipes to stop the leak in the storage room and quickly realized that all of the galvanized pipes desperately need to be replaced. We are currently considering it for a 2006 project. It's gross. I'll put pictures up. While he did that, I put the final coat of paint on the bathroom walls and got as far as I could hanging drywall in the laundry room.

Saturday, I finished cutting and hanging the wallboards and put a couple coats of paint on the storage room walls. Paul finished up with the plumbing in the morning and then started on installing more lights in the laundry room. By Sunday, the laundry room walls were up, mud and taped, the lights were installed and working, and the storage room had shelves. We cleaned up everything and put it away too - it was so cool. We were thinking, by next weekend, the laundry room will be primed, painted, and ready for visitors. I can not even tell you how excited that makes me. I definitely did NOT anticipate this much work when I first bought the house but I'm so happy we decided to do it. It looks so nice - everyone must come over and check it out. Finally, after like 2 months, we see results. It feels so good, I can't even explain it.....and we're only half way done!! Oh I am so excited.

this is how it looks after we ripped out the old flooring, the old wash tub and sink, put up the drywall, mud and taped, primed, and paint. the storage room is going to be yellow when we're done Posted by Hello

and here's the new laundry room. It looks like there isn't enough room for a wash tub behind the washer but I assure you, there is. Posted by Hello

here's the bathroom up close.  Posted by Hello

here's looking at the room from the old storage room. this is after we tore down the adjoining wall between the old storage room and the old bathroom/laundry. We also put up the dividing wall as you can see in the middle of the picture Posted by Hello

Here's a close up of the laundry side of the old room Posted by Hello

This is the way the bathroom/laundry USED to look. Posted by Hello

My Basement Photos - Old vs. New Construction Posted by Hello
Sorry guys, I've been meaning to post pictures of our basement progress but I keep putting it off because we're getting more and more completed every time we go down there. There's a few minor drywall details that we'll probably finish tonight but we got most of the big stuff done. The only rough work stuff that's left is:
--one coat of paint left on the bathroom
--two coats of paint still to go in the storage room
--mud and tape laundry
--prime laundry
--paint laundry

If we're going to be around this weekend, Paul will probably start working on DryLoking the big room now that the barn wood is off the walls.

I'm really hoping we can speed up the project but we'll see how that goes. I might have to deal with it for another couple of months. It kinda worries me though because it seems like everytime I go down there to work, I get sick. I wear this respirator when it gets dusty but sometimes I'm like "eh, I'm painting, I don't have to wear this thing" and then 2 days later, I can't talk because my throat is really dry and soar and my nose is all clogged up. Yea, I know, that's what I get for being stupid but still, my house shouldn't be making me this sick. I can't wait till we're done.

I'll post some progress pictures tomorrow. I know I promised them last week but I'm putting the camera in my bag today so I won't forget. I hope most of you remember the basement because although the before pictures show a lot, they're definitely not like actually being there. Maybe I'll make a little drawing just to explain what we did before you see the pictures......hmm...that's an idea....

I can't believe it's Friday. This whole week just FLEW by. Ugh, sometimes I really hate saying that because I feel like tomorrow I'm going to wake up and my kids are gonna be in college. That would really suck.

I've traveled around the US in my life but nothing ever really felt like here. Pennsylvania, Florida, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Nebraska, N&S Carolina, DC, West Virgina, Georgia, Tennessee, Texas, Arizonia, Colorado, Wyoming, Iowa, Kentucky, California, Minnesota, Nevada, Canada, Jamaica....nope, not like good ole Michigan. I wish that I could be more adventurous and move around the US. Maybe if I win the lotto I could do it. That's it I'm doin it, I'm playin the lotto. I'm so going to win - what's the jackpot up to now? A couple million?
